ABOUT ME

Sound Designer, Producer & Musician

My name is Martin A. Nilsen and I am a composer, sound designer, producer, and an overall music enthusiast. Graduated with bachelor honours from Lasalle College of the Arts after studying three years of Music Technology, now currently residing in my hometown Stavanger, Norway. I am raised from a family with a history of international upbringing by living in Singapore and Dubai for the most of my life. I have been studying mostly at international schools in Stavanger, Singapore and Dubai.

At the age of 8, I grew an interest for guitars after being introduced to big rock bands such as; Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. I spent a lot of my childhood listening to these bands and to set a goal for myself to become a guitar player (preferably lead guitarist). As I've grown older, I've experienced different forms and varieties of music and eventually become more opened minded and resulted to change my musical direction from just only listening and playing rock and metal to listening and playing folk, indie pop, indie rock, alternative and jazz. I appreciate a wide variety of forms of music and I tend to broaden my horizons everyday in order to improve and hone my skills as a musician, producer as well as a listener.

I consider myself as a experimental musician in which I tend to dabble into such genres as; Prog Rock, Electronic,  Ambient, Vaporwave, Indie music, Experimental, and amongst many sub genres. By listening and studying the performance techniques and the aesthetics of these unique genres, I can fetch inspirations and form them into my own style and performance techniques. I consider myself as a “sonic artist” that put a lot of love and dedication into my work which resulted in releasing multiple singles, EPs and Full Lengths under my own name, Zeitgeist (Post-Metal, Black Metal) and as その VANTABLACK INC. (Vaporwave/Ambient moniker).

I've grown an interest in creating music for multimedia after studying Sound Design at Lasalle College of the Arts, I heavily focus on Ambient and Electronic/Experimental music that would be suitable for such as films, documentaries, commercials, broadcast, etc. Programs such as Logic Pro and Ableton Live are my main tools of creativity to achieve the professional production sound whether it’s for personal work or for a company. My main influences for this direction are; Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, Hiroshi Yoshimura, t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者 and 2 8 1 4.

My aim is to become a post-production/sound designer for various platforms of multimedia. I have experiences in composing and produced two soundtracks for a short film and a documentary in Singapore. Today, I continue to work more on new music, explore new music, learn more production as well as playing techniques and accepting new challenges and obstacles that lay ahead of me to help myself improve as a musician, sound designer and producer.
